NEW WORK
Remote Alaska for US Census Bureau
We closed out last year (2019) shooting a commercial project for the U.S. Census Bureau in a handful of communities around Alaska. The work had us on location in the city of Anchorage to the regional hub of Bethel to the tiny Yup’ik village of Toksook Bay. Conditions in the middle of winter can harsh to say the least. But in order to have photography and video assets to promote the upcoming 2020 count, we needed to produce in late December and early January.
Our team experienced the full brunt of a winter storm off the Bering Sea: forty below temps combined with high winds. We took to a strategy of very short takes outside to minimizing exposure to us and our equipment. Though Western Alaska locals don’t seem to even flinch at such conditions.
After two different week-long tours through these communities, the US Census Bureau team returned to Washington D.C. with a treasure trove of media assets. And more than an few good adventurous tales to share around the office.
